Mapleton, Oregon
Ken Been

He just pulled it back into neutral and let it all go
then rolled down the hill freed of friction
as if he was a kid on a bike
a devil down the dare drop at the embankment by the river
his head nearly sheared off by the wind
and glass.

I saw it go down from the other side of the road
over there
it took me apart–
Later I questioned what I saw
maybe a lever had opened up a new atmosphere
for him.
