Only a Sparrow
Bart Edelman

Nothing more, nothing less.
Hardly cause for alarm–
Or bother, at any rate.
If you’ve seen one,
Surely, you’ve seen the rest.
Nary a tale to tell,
Unless it falls at your feet.
And, even then, I’m afraid,
What more can be said,
Concerning such an event,
Except how to dispose
Of the poor fellow,
Praying no more appear,
Until you’ve evaluated the matter,
Consulted your daily schedule,
Addressed the lurid details
Life offers each day.
After all, between you, me,
And the cop on the beat,
It’s only a sparrow.
