Picture
Before you know it you’re dead and out of

the picture, of life anyhow, you’re dead
and maybe that’s a life of its own but
anyway that’s what happens to us all,
I know because they say so at Sunday
School and I say it as well, I’ve seen
it in roadkill on the turnpike and my
own mutt who got crushed over and over
so by the time I scraped him off the road
you couldn’t get much deader than he was
though that’s the body–maybe when you’re dead
you’re just dead and there’s no further killing
to ever hurt you anymore unless you’re
like me and found him. And yet he came when
called, and I called and I called and I called.
