Elixir for Unbroken Things
Katherine DiBella Seluja

Take the last broken thing you have on hand
Grind it down finer than the feathers

on the back of the neck
Smooth it to a paste

Crack open that bottle of holy water
your ex-best girlfriend brought you

This bottle reminded me of you.
Add in a few drops, dump the rest at your feet

It will be neat to watch the swirls in the dirt
and see which way the runnels flow

It’s not that we’re meant to be living this life unbroken
But it’s so damn hard to admit it

Pulverize that photo of your family
The one where you’re the last one living
