Jesus Saves
Diane Payne
S & H green stamps,
heads of weary couples he mounts to living room walls,
pictures of ruthless evangelists he prints onto milk cartons,
a ripped up “Columbus Didn’t Discover America, He Invaded It”
bumper sticker pasted to his ’64 Dodge Dart,
the last bit of root beer in a float,
stray collarless dogs,
three-legged cats,
fossils found on unseen rocks,
melodies from mournful blues heard late at night,
and Aunt Farzana’s spare change.
Oh, how Jesus saves.
