Marilyn Wegner, After Bloom
The Names of Nemesis
Maryna Krazhova

An enemy, sounds like anemia.
The fact of its existence,
reduces oxygen and trials with fatigue.
Doctors say, you need some iron to defeat the disease.
Same for the enemies,
you need an iron fist
to smash them down.

A rival, sounds viral.
Enthusiastically the viral-rival-viruses,
Run after you in every corner, every center.
We fight them, we subdue them with vaccines,
And so it goes with rivals and suppressions.

An adversary, sounds like a versing ad,
Promoted from the underground throats,
and artificial whistles
The adversaries must be advertised
through childish verses.
It becomes so easy to memorize,
and hate forever.

There are some more:
                            appointed opponents,
                            explosive opposers,
contests, battles, races, competitions. . .
“Vivere militare est”– “To live is to fight”
And here we are
                The People
with complex sets of special preconditions.
